My 2nd Lecture Blog pt 1

Today's class was really interesting. I listened with keen interest as Chris lectured. The lecture was about economics concepts.

Chris Horrie started by saying that he is an atheist and that he believes in evolution and how the earth was being formed, archeological facts and fossils etc,and even quoted Genesis 1 "In the beginning was the world". I am a Christian and I believe in the Bible and I believe that God created us all and we are all descendants of Adam and Eve and we didn't evolve from monkeys and apes. The evolution story is all science and biology, but I wont go there today, it will be another topic for another day. Everybody is entitled to their opinion but the simple truth is that God created us all, and that is a fact and I have evidence to prove that, and that is "THE HOLY BIBLE".

Chris asked me if I could come for the meeting on Thursday at the Learning Cafe because I am an International student and it would be nice for me to come and I said yes, sure.

The lecture started with Economic theory from enlightenment Neoclassicism to Modernism. Adam Smith , Scottish, is known as the Father of Economics. He is the author of 'An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations' , published in 1776 . He asked, 'why is one Nation wealthier than the other'? Answer is because it's rules allow the population to develop a COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGE and then allows FREE TRADE (with no state monopolies).

What is Economics? Economics is a precise way of measuring human behaviour. You can trace human behaviour to money and the only thing money cannot buy is 'GENUINE POVERTY', apart from that, everything can be purchased. Money is a good way of understanding people. I agree with Chris on money matters.

Empiricism: Empiricism developed in the early 17th and 18th century. Empiricism is the belief that all knowledge is ultimately derived from sense experience. It is an idea rooted in direct experience. Example 'I wont believe it until I see it with my own two eyes'. The British School of empiricism developed through the works of John Locke, George Berkeley and David Hume. Empiricism is often and frequently contrasted with Rationalism. Rationalism takes the view that self-evident A Priori propositions are the sole basis of all knowledge. A priori, meaning in the beginning, 'god is dead' (LIES).It means that there is no empirical evidence that you exist, the only way you can assert that you exist is by A priori. How do I know what I know?

My First day

This is my first blog and I will try and make it as interesting as I can.
I am really not having a great day today and it is written all over me. Isnt't it amazing how lots of people leave their countries and travel afar to study in the UK.I am an international student and I travelled all the way from Nigeria to study in Winchester.Life abroad can really be depressing and can also be interesting if you are surrounded by people who try to help you to know and appreciate your new environment.
In the few days I have spent here in Winchester,I have made friends with alot of people, especially international students like me.I have made friends from India,Mexico,Uganda,Ghana,China,Japan,Hongkong,South Africa among others.
Life here is totally different from Africa. The weather is terribly depressing and annoying as the weather only gets colder and colder.Everything here is different.
I am trying to adjust to university life again, after having my first degree in law in 2001 and being called to The Nigerian Bar in 2004.I am finding my journalism course interesting, but having a little problem with psychology, but I know with time I will overcome it.
My journalism course requires me to start a blog and I will try my best to update it always.I wont write about what is happening in and around Winchester, but I will write about things that interests me and that includes my life in winchester and anything I find interesting.
I have been to the courts here and have also done alot of research and I am really having fun with my studies.I love media law because I have a law background and can relate to some of the cases and topics being discussed.
I know this is not perfect ,but with time I will improve and be an addicted blogger.
I have Chris's classes now and I will return to write an update about how his class has been,I love attending his lectures and I love attending Angus's lectures, not because he is my personal tutor, but because I love his style of teaching.I really cant say anything about Brian, because I have seen him teach like 3 times, but havent had any contact with him,but he is good too.
I am more of a personal person...............
